Hiking News:

Sorel Tofino II - How well do they perform in the cold?

My normal "winter" boot is just a Keen waterproof hiking boot with lightweight wool socks (the kind you can wear hiking in the summer or winter). Over the past 3 or so years using them, I have had probably less than 5 instances that I can remember having cold feet while out snow-shoeing or doing other winter activities. That said, I have a chance for a pair of Sorel Tofinos II's at a pretty good discount. However, some reviews have left me skeptical of their warmth rating. Conside...

Patagonia down jacket lost its fluff

I used a washing kit to clean my jacket and I dried it with the little plastic static balls that come with the kit. It worked great except for I noticed on my bike commute into work this morning that one of the sleeves had lost its fluff. I was thinking about throwing it back in the dryer on a low temp with the static balls when I got home to see if it could re-fluff itself but I was wondering if anyone here had any ideas for things to try before I did that. Any ideas submitted by ...

Winter jacket for walking commute

I'm looking for a winter jacket that will keep me warm as I walk to school on a daily basis in Southern Ontario. I was thinking of getting some kind of pullover fleece to layer with a hard shell jacket. Would this keep me warm compared to something like an insulated jacket I'm having a hard time finding comparisons between the two. submitted by /u/PurpleGatsby [link] [comments]...

Adding a second specific sleeping bag to my sleeping bag.

Hi everyone, I've got a duck-feather stuffed sleeping bag, which I like for the price I paid it. It says it goes down to 7'C during extreme condition. Last week-end I went camping and outside it was as low as 2 or 3'C. So I had to put every clothes I had, including a full merino pant and long-sleeve t-shirt, a jogging, a ski t-shirt, a fleece, technic socks and my stuffed coat (not really hot). It was hardly enough. I don't want to buy a second sleeping bag. Instead, I ...

Black Diamond Jackets

Hi everybody, So I'm new here but I was looking on advice for purchasing a jacket for the winter. I am from Nebraska so it gets pretty cold in the winters and I am also looking to use this jacket mostly for day to day wear but with the potential for skiing and hiking as well. I have some layers to work with under, but I am looking for something that would work as an exterior layer mostly. I am not super concerned with having a waterproof jacket but something that can handle some adverse weat...

Blizzard Bonafide Skis - 8973bzbonf16zz-blizzard-skis by Blizzard

Item description: This Hiking Skis product is by Blizzard - Blizzard engineers had to think long and hard as to how they could improve the Bonafide, but they did. This past season they added the Flip Core Carbon Rocker Construction to it. Flip Core Carbon Rocker has 90 degree Carbon Fiber integrated into the rockered areas in the tip and tail to reduce the weight of the ski to eliminate tip wobble on firm terrain, lower the swingweight, and make the Bonafide easier to control, to allow a wider range of skiers to enjoy ripping any terrain possible. Blizzard presses the wood of their skis upside down in the press to give it a natural flex, better flotation, and more stability. The 98mm waist only makes the Bonafide a true all terrain ski to be able to float in the deep snow, crush crud, and be highly maneuverable on a groomer. A Double Titanium layer plus an additional layer over the binding mounting platform sits on top of a Poplar/Beech Wood Core that has a very powerful feeling, and will be ultra-stable no matter how fast you push your skis down the mountain. If you are looking for that one ski does it all, that knows no speed limit, saddle up and click into the Blizzard Bonafide, this ski has not been a best seller since its inception for no reason. Lengths: 166, 173, 180, 187cm Sidecut: 133/98/118 Radius: 21.0m @ 180cm Sandwich Compound Sidewall Poplar-Beech Woodcore Double Ti Ti Binding Interface Rocker-Camber-Rocker Carbon Flip Core... Kye Petersen narrowed the waistline on this model but didn''t take away any of its ability to out perform its wider counterparts. The extended taper and rocker tip shape float in the widest variety of snow conditions while keeping the skier forward on the tips. With the lowest tail height in its class, the 95''s extended running surface and shorter turn radius make this the "best in class" for the KYE series in firm to variable conditions.
